- On June 18,1985 IBM issued the following advisory:
- IBM has determined that a faulty component on less than 10%
- of Fixed Disk/Diskette Drive Adapters may cause problems with
- data storage on the fixed disk drive.
- IBM AT's affected are in the following serial number ranges;
- Model 068 5019001 to 5141250
- Model 099 0054001 to 0146900
- only a limited number of these units are affected.
- Two methods of inspection are provided.
- 1 - FD/DD Adapter Test Program
- run the program- every few seconds an asterisk will appear on screen
- to indicate normal progress. The test takes 60 minutes to complete.
- At the end, results will appear on your screen.
- 2 - Visual inspection
- All FD/DD Adapter cards with a TI chip with a -10 suffix in position
- U-19 (near the "front" of the machine about three chips down from the
- top), should be replaced.
- IBM also notes that users who require replacement should be informed that
- they could lose data on their fixed disk when replacing the adapter.
- All this is pretty much verbatim per IBM System Support Guide dated
- July,1985.
